So I was thinking about Pon Farr and The Footnote, and I was curious if anyone had figured out when Spock’s other times of mating would occur in respect to the subsequent Star Trek episodes and movies.
If I calculated something wrong, please help me, I’m insanely curious about the accuracy of this!
I referred to the Star Trek TOS Timeline from Wikipedia and to Memory Alpha for a timeline and to confirm the year Amok Time takes place.
2266–2269: The events of Star Trek: The Original Series take place.
2267: Spock’s First Pon Farr
2269-2270: The events of Star Trek: The Animated Series take place.
2270: The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) returns from its five-year mission under the command of Captain James T. Kirk and enters major refit while Kirk is promoted to Admiral at Starfleet Command.
2273: The events of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
2273–2278: The upgraded USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) embarks on a five-year mission under the command of Admiral James T. Kirk.
2274: Spock’s Second Pon Farr
2279: Around this time the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) is retired from active duty and assigned as a training vessel in orbit of Earth.
2281: Spock’s Third Pon Farr
2285: The events of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the events of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock. The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) is destroyed to prevent it from falling into Klingon hands.
Spock’s regenerated mindless body goes through Pon Farr on the Genesis planet. His body is aged to the same as he was at his death.
2286: The events of Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
The newly refit USS Yorktown (NCC-1704) is renamed the USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-A) and is launched on its maiden voyage.
2287: The events of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. (Note that this film apparently takes place very nearly after the fourth film, as evidenced by Scotty’s complaints about repairing the ship after its shakedown cruise, which was depicted at the end of Star Trek IV. Star Trek V would then take place in early 2287, with the events of Star Trek IV spanning most of 2286, with several months passing after Kirk’s return to the future to account for the preparation of the Enterprise-A and Gillian’s training for her space assignment.)
2288: Spock’s Fourth (?) Pon Farr
2293: The events of Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. The Enterprise-A is slated to be decommissioned shortly afterwards.
The opening events of Star Trek Generations. The USS Enterprise (NCC-1701-B) is launched. James Kirk is presumed killed.
….so I’m really curious whether Jim Kirk was actually foolish enough to choose a partner who came into sexual prime every seven years. And who Spock chose.

Yes anon.
Most of the Space Husbands fanfiction I have read and would recommend has been Star Trek: 2009 stuff. Not because I prefer the reboot (lol no), but because it is precisely THOSE new versions of Kirk and Spock that most definitely need the magnificent touch of fanfiction authors to bring out their enduring relationship that was present in Star Trek: TOS.
Star Trek: 2009
Through Chekov’s Eyes by littlebirdtold
Chekov’s point of view of the changing relationship between Captain Kirk and First Officer Spock. I loved this one because of the way the reader sees the emotions and miscommunications as an outside observer. The author provides some excellent characterization and closure. Seriously just read all her stuff.
Bang a Gong by waketosleep
The chronicles of the Sad Bastards Club (Enterprise Chapter).
This fic so hilarious and completely fun. Kirk and Spock become an inseparable team and pair, and the way the author introduces their romance falls into place so perfectly. You get everything with this fic, humour, action, friendship, and a sense of companionship and devotion, this is amazing. I loved it.
Atlas by distractedKat
Between what was and what will be stands James Tiberius Kirk, in all his fractures patchwork glory. Because saving the Federation was only the beginning.
EPIC EPIC EPIC. If you love nu!Kirk then this is for you. Honestly the K/S is just an extra bonus since the author does a brilliant job of turning nu!Kirk into a worthy Captain (and more) to the Federation and Enterprise. The romance is slow build and immensely satisfying.
Never Give Up by mdevile
Kirk gives up pursuing Spock. Cue angst.
Exactly what it says. Spock does something about it.
So Wise We Grow by Deastar
Kid Fic. “Commander Spock, we have located your son,” the Vulcan lady on the screen says, which would be great, except Jim can tell by the look on Spock’s face that he’s never heard of this kid before in his life. “If it is expedient, the child will be sent to join you on the Enterprise within the week.”
If you read ANY ST2009 fic, it must be this one. I usually HATE kid fic, but this I have read over and over again, and it just doesn’t stop being the greatest. What I love most about this is that the vulcan child is a catalyst for nu!Spock to question his “destiny” and what the Enterprise is to him, while nu!Kirk is spurred to develop into the father-figure he was in TOS and have some true responsibility. They end up working together and the Enterprise becomes a family (like TOS). There’s so much I could say about this story, but you really should just read it and discover it all for yourself!!
The Lotus Eaters by aldora89
Stranded on the planet Sigma Nox while searching for a missing away team, Spock and Kirk find themselves pitted against a disturbing native life form. With the captain out of commission on a regular basis and Spock struggling to preserve his stoicism, staying alive is difficult enough – but when a slim chance for escape surfaces, their resolve is truly put to the test. Together they must fight for survival in the heart of an alien jungle, and in the process, uncover the mystery of the
planet’s past. Slow build K/S.
This is my favourite Space Husbands fic. Hands down, don’t even slkdadlsaladsl!@ *keyboard smash*. Survival trope is my absolute favourite and the world/planet the author has created is electrifying to read about; it seems harmless at first but quickly becomes a dangerous place with a mysterious, dark and unnerving tone. Kirk and Spock relying on each other, supporting each other and not giving up (no matter how much the forces surrounding them intervene) is the core part of why I love this fanfiction. A watcher of TOS would especially like the re-take on some themes. (I know I did!!) I have re-read this story multiple times and every time I just love it more.
Theta Nix by ansley15
After Spock is killed on a mission to a planet run by time-altering aliens, Kirk stops at nothing to bring back the man he has just realized he has feelings for. But Kirk, of all people, should know a Captain cannot cheat death…
I liked this a lot because it’s kind of a rebooted TWOK & The Search for Spock. But different universe means different outcome. Angst.
Second-Best Destiny by KCScribbler
“Whatever our lives might have been, our destinies have changed.” — AOS Spock, ST:XI “You once said being a starship captain was my first, best destiny. And, if that’s true, then yours is to be by my side.” — Deleted Shatner scene from ST:XI, original reference to ST:II, The Wrath of Khan.
THIS STORY IS A MUST READ. This is the story that allowed me to reconcile the fact that ST2009 is not and will not ever truly be TOS, and that it is ok for it not to be TOS. More specifically, it made me respect the changes in the new characterizations (seriously the author is that fantastic). If that wasn’t enough, this plot involves Q and also includes Spock Prime and Kirk Prime. And it does it believably. Technically it’s not a Space Husbands slash fanfic, but it does come across as pre-slash and eventually revolves strongly around the love, affection, and strong friendship Kirk and Spock have. Read ALL this author’s stories.
Star Trek: TOS
Devil’s Bargain by Rhaegal
Set after TMP. Spock’s impending pon farr makes him wary of agreeing to a second five-year mission, so Kirk agrees to lend a hand (so to speak) should the situation arise. What could possibly go wrong?
INCREDIBLE. HONESTLY INCREDIBLE. There are no words for how damn satisfying this story is. Kirk is my favourite character, and the eye-opener he specifically goes through in this story from love and affection to something that most definitely qualifies as deep love and romance with Spock is simply brilliant.
A Dance in Shadow and Silence by eimeo
A shuttle crash leaves Spock, Sulu and Chekov adrift on a deserted ocean world. As Chekov fights for his life and Sulu tries desperately to save him, Spock reflects on the strong bond that exists between the two men and starts to wonder what it is he’s really afraid of in his friendship with Kirk…
A Spock-centric piece that balances his logical and emotional reasoning when it comes to Kirk. No other fic has (in my opinion) done it so flawlessly. If you liked the Galileo 7 episode and love space husbands, you should love this too.
Wire in the Blood by thedeadparrot
When someone damages the navigational systems of the I.S.S. Enterprise, Captain Kirk must hunt down the culprit and discover the true motives behind the sabotage. Mirror-verse (pre-“Mirror, Mirror” episode)
Do you like the Terran Empire? This fic. Even though we didn’t get to see much of Kirk’s mirror counterpart, this author has written his voice with perfect vicious quality. Also, Pon Farr.
I have so many other favourite stories, but these links I had readily on hand to answer your ask, anon. I hope you may enjoy at least one of these if you haven’t already.
If not, here are some Kirk/Spock (Space Husbands) Rec Lists which I live my life off of:

Friendly reminder to the reboot writers that the only time Kirk ever forgot someone he’d kissed in TOS was this:
… which happened because he cared about her too much.
Here are some of the women Kirk didn’t forget:
Oh and just for kicks, here’s what his relationship with Chapel looked like:
… but never mind that, because I guess TOS got it all wrong and the real way to be tough, manly main character is to bang (or try to bang) every woman in sight and then forget/ignore/dismiss them later. No meaningful romances or platonic friendships allowed, no sir!

CHULU ACTIVATE
omg shitty blackberry pics lmao yesss technoranma and I cosplayed as chekov and sulu tonight. you know just hanging out and high fiving every other second during long discussions about the Captain and his pretty butt in star trek into darkness
Ensign Chekov reporting for duty, Keptin!
Gonna quickly throw in an epic quote I found on this article.
KJKJ: Gene Roddenberry, with balls of brass, got up on national tv and said, “hey people, if a geneticist took all the best DNA from planet Earth and put it together to make the best human the world has ever seen - he wouldn’t be a white guy.”
This is why I find the casting of a white actor in this role to be so repugnant. They are not whitewashing an Asian role, they are saying that the best genetic material that the entirety of this world and it’s diversity has to offer….still comes from a white guy.Reblogging again for that
